Isn’t it unfair that PC isn’t receiving the same love in J-RPGs as consoles? Final Fantasy XV might just be coming over.

Have you ever felt that there’s a lack of Japanese role-playing games on PC? Especially when you compare it to consoles? Like seriously, you hear plenty of awesome role-playing games but most of them are console exclusive.

Well, it looks like Final Fantasy XV might not be stuck on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for long. This is what Final Fantasy XV’s Game Director Hajime Tabata has to say about it.

“I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines” says Tabata

Final Fantasy XV Game Director Hajime Tabata was interviewed by Japan’s Famitsu magazine. In the interview, Tabata talked about Final Fantasy XV. The quote that really catches people’s eyes, as translated by Gematsu, was this:

I’d like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt. I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines.

But that’s not all folks. Tabata also shed light on mods for the game and other user-generated content for the game. He mentioned how his team at Square Enix would like to explore the possibility of “playing with PC-exclusive features like making your own quests and enjoying the world using things like mods.”

He also made note of the possibility of expanding the in-game world. Videos surfaced on the internet where players managed to access areas that cannot be accessed through traditional means. Tabata pointed out that these areas were not completely made, and players needed to utilize glitches to access them. Even then, there’s nothing much to do in the area.

We might remake playable areas in future expansions, but since that would take a year, it is not currently in our plans. For argument’s sake, if we were to prepare new fields, Insomnia would also be a candidate, but that also would take a year’s worth of work.

Final Fantasy XV initially had a September release date but was then delayed to November. It was only available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Hajime mentioned that he and his team are aware that there’s a major demand by gamers to have a PC version but at the time of its release, no such thing was being developed.

Pokdepinion: I want you guys to notice that when Tabata mentioned about a PC version of Final Fantasy XV, he said that there no development work going on at the time of its release. He did not explicitly deny of that being in the works right now. Also, he already mentions about how he and his team wants it to happen. Having mods and what not for the game might just turn it into something like Grand Theft Auto V, a modders’ paradise.

Given Square Enix’s track record of releasing current-generation Final Fantasy titles late, I’m personally expecting to happen some time in 2018 or 2019. Not only that, I’m about pretty sure the game will be up on Steam complete with all the DLCs with no extra charge. That’s what happened to the Final Fantasy XIII series after all.
