Nintendo Once Turned Down Kanye West on Game Collaboration Project
Nintendo has worked with a number of notable figures over the years, with Apple considered to be one of the biggest surprises there. However, did you know that a Kanye West collaboration could have happened previously? If you didn’t know, you’re going to be in for a treat with this one.

According to former Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, Kanye West previously approached him at E3 some years back to collaborate on a game project. This information came from a podcast with gaming journalist Harold Goldberg, Talking Games with Reggie and Harold. For those of you who aren’t aware, the podcast series consists of seven “fundraising podcasts” for non-profit organization New York Videogame Critics Circle.
The podcast episode details Kanye West coming to the Nintendo booth at E3 and talked with Shigeru Miyamoto. He then requested to meet with Reggie Fils-Aime, which led to a conversation that also included Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, on a potential collaboration.
Part of it was talking about what he w as up to, he was experimenting with a piece of video game content; he wanted reactions to it. He comes out and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’ We had so many different projects at Nintendo going on, the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there, and so I had to find a way to politely decline this opportunity to work with him.
I told him, ‘Kanye, you don’t want to work with us because we’re tough, we’re hard. All we do is push for the very best content. We would not be the type of partner you would want to work with.’ And he looks at me and says, ‘Reggie, you’re exactly the type of partner I want because of that reason!’ It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh.’
If you were hoping that such a project would come to reality, that’s where I bring bad news. It doesn’t seem that it’s likely to happen anytime soon. While I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, it’s best not to put your hopes up for this one.
Pokdepinion: Given how eccentric the man is, I’m not surprised he approached Nintendo on doing some work together.
