Cyberpunk 2077 Can Run On A Smartphone, Technically
You read that right – Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most demanding games of modern times, can be run within the hardware of one Lenovo Legion Y70 smartphone. You can watch the game in action for yourself, although low visual quality and some graphical glitches are to be expected.
How did the gaming smartphone from 2022 manage to pull off this feat? On the hardware level, the processor inside the Legion smartphone isn’t as weak as you may think. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip paired with Adreno 730 GPU that outputs 2.15 TFLOPS – that’s more than the original PS4’s 1.84 TFLOPS. This would make more sense, although it took a lot of heavy quality reductions to make this game even work on the PS4 hardware itself.
The next part is making the game run – since Android is, on paper, not compatible with any Windows games. This requires the Mobox emulator running on DirectX Vulcan API with a resolution of just 1280 x 720 – though the graphics quality is set to High. While the end result wasn’t pretty by any means, the fact that it runs just smooth enough throughout the game is a huge achievement in itself.
Cyberpunk 2077 has seen highs and lows over the years – from the massive hype generated up until the launch to the huge fiasco it caused due to many game-breaking bugs and performance issues in several platforms shortly after launch. It took CD Project RED a great deal of time to slowly get its way back up, ultimately successful in polishing the game into its final state. The studio recently stated that it has moved on to other projects, as CP2077 has reached its completed form.
