The Pokémon Company International used the inaugural PokémonXP event and the 2026 Pokémon World Championships to announce several new developments, including a shift in venue for next year’s championships, a new animated film, and fresh content for its mobile and Nintendo Switch title Pokémon Champions.
Pokémon 2027 World Championships Moves To Singapore
The 2027 Pokémon World Championships will be held at Singapore EXPO at Tampines from August 13-15, marking the tournament’s move to Southeast Asia. The Pokémon Company said further details on the event would be released on its official website in the future.
Separately, the company revealed “Pokémon: Wild Card,” a new feature-length animated film set for release beginning in 2027. The film follows an aspiring Pokémon Trading Card Game player alongside Mimikyu, known as the Disguise Pokémon, and is being produced with STORY inc. and CloverWorks, a Japanese animation studio. It will be the franchise’s first movie release in several years.
Z Mega Evolutions Arrive In Pokémon Champions On 9 Sept
Nintendo Switch title Pokémon Champions will introduce Z Mega Evolutions for the first time starting 9 September 2026, alongside the start of a new ruleset called Regulation Set M-C. The update adds Mega Absol Z, Mega Lucario Z and Mega Garchomp Z to the game, along with Rillaboom and Baxcalibur. The Pokémon Company also said more information on Heatran’s addition to battles would be shared at a later date.
Regulation Set M-C will run from 9 September 2026 at 10:00 AM Malaysian time through 2 December 2026 at 9:59 AM. Under the new rules, Pokémon holding a Mega Stone can Mega Evolve once per battle, with the three new Z Mega Evolutions joining Pokémon already available from Regulation Sets M-A and M-B.
Mega Absol Z is a Dark/Ghost-type Disaster Pokémon – its Ability, Sharpness, increases the power of its slicing moves by 50%. Mega Lucario Z is a Fighting/Steel-type Aura Pokémon, carrying a new Ability called Aura Guard that halves damage taken from contact moves; the developer noted this is the Ability’s first appearance in the title. Mega Garchomp Z is a Dragon-type Mach Pokémon with the Levitate Ability granting immunity to Ground-type moves as well as entry hazards such as Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web.
