Indonesian-based game developer Glory Jam and Singaporean publisher Soft Source Publishing have announced a physical retail release of heavy metal-themed action roguelite Grim Trials for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The PS5 version will be released on disc, while the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be released on cartridge.
Grim Trials Physical Release Confirmed
Dominikus D Putranto, Game Director of Grim Trials, said the team had long considered the game “deserved to sit proudly on a shelf,” given the tactile experience associated with owning physical media. Take notes, Sony.
Players interested in the physical edition can register their email on the official Grim Trials physical edition landing page to receive notifications when pre-orders open, along with updates on the limited production run (the date of which hasn’t been announced yet at the time of this writing). Note that both physical editions will include the version 1.0 of the base game.
If you can settle for just the digital edition of Grim Trials, the game is scheduled for release on August 20, 2026, across PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Per its developer, Grim Trials is a heavy metal action roguelite where players “craft and customize your own weapons and equipment to embrace Death [their] own way.”
“Play as Avelin, a young woman who has met an untimely end, and found herself recruited as one of Death’s many Reapers. Tasked to hunt down impure souls, face her demons, and fight her way through an underworld of her own making, Avelin must endure these trials to become a full-fledged Reaper and see her still-living love once again,” the game description reads.
