Capcom has confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will now launch on 4 September 2026, three weeks earlier than its previously announced date of 25 September 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a sword-fighting action game set in historical Kyoto during the early Edo period in Japan, following Miyamoto Musashi as he battles demonic Genma creatures using the Oni Gauntlet. The title marks the official return of Capcom’s Onimusha franchise after 20 years of hiatus – the previous mainline title to bear the Onimusha name is Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams released in 2006 for PS2.
Pre-orders are open now across Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe editions – players who purchase any edition before 24 September 2026 are eligible for Early Adopter Bonuses. Here’s the announcement trailer:
As usual with Capcom titles, a free demo is available on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store for players to take an early look at the game’s combat mechanics; players who have demo save data on their account can claim an exclusive Kubi Akari Charm when the full game launches on September 4th this year.
