AMD Ryzen 7 4700U Benchmarks Leak Shows Promising Performance
Many people are excited to see the AMD Ryzen 4000 series in action. One CPU in the series that was leaked is the Ryzen 7 4700U, in which early benchmarks have popped up. The result, if accurate, shows some rather interesting details about its performance.
The benchmark in question is by Geekbench, which listed the Ryzen 7 4700U with a single core score of 4910 and a multi-core score of 21,693. The CPU is said to be housed inside a Lenovo system, which is most likely a laptop. The minimum and maximum clock speed was recorded at 3,955 MHz and 4,185 MHz respectively.
For those of you who aren’t aware, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U is part of the Renoir family of mobile APUs designed for laptops and is based on the Zen 2 microarchitecture. It has 8 cores without simultaneous multithreading, meaning that there are 8 threads. It is a product of the TSMC 7nm FinFET manufacturing process with a 15W TDP, and is said to have a 2 GHz base close with a 4.1 GHz boost clock.
To put in comparison, the Intel Core i7-1065G7 and i7-10710U are the top models in the blue camp’s lineups. The former has 4 cores and 8 threads whereas the latter has 6 cores and 12 threads. Both also have a 15W TDP, making them the appropriate choice to fight the Ryzen 7 4700U.
The problem here is that the benchmark scores for the aforementioned Intel CPUs aren’t consistent, most likely due to it being benchmarked with a variety of RAM speeds. The former scored between 1,800 to 6,300 in the single core test and 3,700 to 20,000 in the multi-core test whereas the latter scored between 2,400 and 5,600 for single core and 7,400 to 24,000 for multi-core.
It’s hard to say with the scores we know thus far but one thing’s for sure, the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U does show promising performance. We’re expected to see it pop up in a variety of devices sometime this year.
