HONOR Questions The Purpose Of Foldable Smartphones
At the presentation event of the brand new HONOR View20, the folks at TechRadar took the time to speak with the President of HONOR, George Zhao, and question him about the company’s plans to release a foldable phone of their own.
The President said “We are thoroughly researching the foldable phones, but for us it is about experience. From the point of view of technology, it’s good, but why do we need a foldable phone? What can the user experience offer?”.
He then added “Maybe it’s two phones together? That is too thick and it is not convenient. From my point of view, technology needs to provide the best experience to improve the service. That is more important”.
HONOR’s sister company, HUAWEI has been confirmed to launch their own foldable phone that comes with 5G at this year’s MWC 2019. Zhao has commented that HONOR could take on a different route from them despite the fact that the two companies share a research and development center.
Additionally, he Zhao has said that in the future, there will be less notches in smartphones and they will go with the best solutions. “Notches are too big. We spent a lot of time studying this technology (perforated cameras)”.
Pokdepinion: Well he has a point on to what he says? What exactly does foldable phones offer? I still can’t see myself fitting one into my pockets.
