Samsung Going Green By Using Sustainable Materials In Packaging
Samsung Electronics has today revealed that they are taking steps this year to replace plastic packaging materials with paper and other environmentally sustainable elements.
Starting from the first half of 2019, ranging from smartphones, tablets, to home appliances, Samsung will substitute the packaging with nature-friendly materials such as recycled/bio-based plastics and paper.
Aside from that, they have also formed a task force involving design and development, purchasing, marketing, and quality control for innovative packaging ideas. For smartphones, tablet, and wearable products, the company will replace the plastic used for holder trays with pulp molds, and bags wrapping accessories with eco-friendly materials.
Additionally, they will change the design of their phone charger, reducing the use of plastic by swapping glossy exterior with a matte finish as well as eliminating plastic protection films.
Under their economy policy, they have set a mid-term implementation plan to only use paper packaging materials certified by forestry initiative by next year. By 2030, Samsung looks to use 500 thousand tons of recycled plastics and collect 7.5 million tons of discarded products.
Pokdepinion: Guess this is a nice initiative from the company. We can reduce the wastage that goes into making smartphones if all smartphones companies take the same direction.
