LG patents sexdecuple camera system — that’s the sexy way of saying it has 16 cameras!
If you thought the race to add more cameras to the back of smartphones was getting out of hand, well you haven’t seen anything. LG apparently has a patent for a 16 camera system up their sleeves, and they might just use it next year.
Each of the 16 cameras each take a different angle, allowing you to change the pose of your subjects after the fact. It seems that they can also stitch images together to create a panorama of sorts, without having to move your device at all. LG also intends to create moving images, possibly a feature derived from the ability to change the pose of subjects
Overall, it does seem pretty cool, but whether it will catch on with consumers remains another thing altogether. LG pioneering ultra-wide angle cameras in their smartphones didn’t exactly take off either, but now everyone from HUAWEI to Samsung have ultra-wide angle shooters.
If you would like to check out LG’s patent filing for yourself, you can do so here. Will all flagships start sporting 16 cameras or more soon?
Pokdepinion: I was hoping that it meant there will be 1x zoom all the way up to 16x zoom… I have…niche uses for more zooms…
