Xbox Series X GPU is More Powerful Than the RTX 2080 SUPER

We’ve known quite a bit about the upcoming next-gen Xbox Series X console by Microsoft. We know how it looks and some of the parts that make up the console. However, the newest detail may just blow your mind as it shows how powerful the GPU is.

Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer recently made a blog post detailing some of the technical details of the Xbox Series X. This of course includes the AMD Zen2 CPU and RNDA 2 GPU architecture. It is said to be twice as powerful as the Xbox One X, with the GPU capable of delivering up to 12 teraflops of performance. Furthermore, it has variable-rate shading and hardware-accelerated DirectX ray-tracing.

In comparison, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER is capable of 11.3 teraflops. This makes the Xbox Series X GPU fall between the RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2080 Ti, with the latter standing at 13.45 teraflops. In other words, it’s going to be very powerful and with typical console optimizations, we might see the capabilities push beyond what we can imagine.

From what we have heard thus far, the PlayStation 5 is expected to have a weaker GPU, possibly 1 teraflop less than the Xbox Series X GPU. However, there’s no confirmation yet. If there’s a chance that it is true, there is also a good chance that the PS5 may be cheaper as rumours have suggested.

We’re approaching the end of February 2020 and as the year goes by, we expect to hear more on both next-gen consoles. Stay tuned to see how these beastly consoles might just turn out.

Pokdepinion: It’s going to be powerful, but I want to know how Microsoft plans on taking advantage of that. Ultimately, the games library is going to be what moves the units, not the power it holds so it’s still hard to tell.
