Display Maker TCL Previews Dome-Shaped Gaming Monitors
Chinese display maker TCL CSOT (a subsidiary of TCL) recently revealed a unique concept at the Display Tech-ecosystem Conference 2023 (DTC 2023) – a dome-shaped, 31-inch 4K 120Hz OLED panel aims to bring the “3D” experience according to its marketing materials.
So far, no consumer monitor with dome-shaped displays exists, but there have been such designs seen in professional settings to provide the best immersion experience (and often come in very large dimensions). Given that large displays already come with some levels of curvature on the horizontal side, a dome-shaped display would make sense especially if the user views the content at a closer distance, keeping the viewing angle and distance relatively consistent across the entire height of the panel.
To be clear, this is not a retail product – TCL CSOT is equivalent to Samsung Display in terms of how they operate, as both companies provide the panels themselves for OEMs to incorporate into their monitor or device designs. It remains to be seen if other companies may look into this concept, but we’d bet it won’t be long before such monitors make their way into retail channels.
In the event, the company also previews various other panels, including a 27-inch 8K 2D/3D switchable display, 57-inch Dual-UHD 240Hz miniLED monitor, 14-inch flexible 4K OLED display, and more.
