We know that NVIDIA is possibly launching its second RTX 4060 Ti variant in 18th July, with the 16GB version offering double the VRAM over the 8GB one that was launched back in May this year. However, that model has received weak reception – so much so that even AIB partners themselves are not interested in promoting the new variant, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Andreas Schilling, editor at Hardwareluxx.de has this to say on the matter, citing sources in AIB partners: “It looks like very few are interested in promoting the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB in a big way. You can already see that in how many fewer models there are compared to the standard variant.” He also noted that the 16GB only serves one single purpose – to “quiet those critics” that claim 8GB is insufficient for gaming, for which he says is indeed true. However, the pricing will be uncompetitive.

Amongst the reasons that RTX 4060 Ti 8GB received little welfare comes down to two main factors: weak gen-on-gen improvements over RTX 3060 12GB, and uncompetitive launch pricing. NVIDIA themselves has betted on DLSS 3 to prove the RTX 4060 Ti’s worth, however gamers are not as convinced as the company expected.

The fact that this upcoming variant only offers one single difference in specs – double the VRAM to 16GB – spells even more worries, as the new model is set to price at $499, much higher than any previous 60-class GPUs has ever seen. AIBs has even less incentive to promote the model, given that the pricing is already entering higher mid-range territory where RTX 4070 is potentially a better product to sell.

Pokdepinion: Given that 8GB variant is already as bad as it is in public perception – the 16GB variant is unlikely to help at best, and damaging it further at worst.
