Finalmouse Presents The Wildest Keyboard With Display Under Transparent Keys

If you ask the question of “how much RGB do you need” to Finalmouse – this is what “yes” looks like.

Finalmouse Presents The Wildest Keyboard With Display Under Transparent Keys

Gaming keyboards, mechanical keyboards. Most of them comes with some kind of lighting, or RGB, but that’s pretty much it – while some has built-in display to show telemetry and even animations, it’s certainly just a small part of the entire keyboard.

Finalmouse decided to go full ‘why not’ and built the wildest keyboard we’ve ever seen: meet the Finalmouse Centerpiece Keyboard. True to its name, this 65% keyboard has a LCD screen that spans across the entirety of the top side, with transparent key switches and keycaps sitting on top of it.

Don’t you think that massive display is only capable of displaying some preset GIFs and nothing else – it’s powered by the Unreal Engine (yes, the same one that runs your AAA games), and contains its own CPU and GPU, meaning no performance penalty to host system; it is also capable of dynamically reacting to your individual key inputs. Bored of current skins? New skins, free and paid, will be made available via Steam. Up to three videos can be loaded and selected directly from the keyboard itself.

Finalmouse’s black magic attributes to a tech called “Laminated DisplayCircuit Glass Stack”, which looked like super-thin circuitry is laid onto this layer for the keys to function. The entire board is housed inside a custom CNC-milled case, with controls embedded in the side. Key switches are co-developed with Gateron, based on BlackInk designs. Though there’s no durability rating as far as key presses or ingress protection are concerned.

All this craziness comes at a cost – at $349, which is expected to go on sale early 2023. However, considering mechanical keyboards can be a big rabbit hole for uber-expensive, custom components, this is somewhat reasonable… for what it’s worth at least. Although a design like this does mean some features are not present due to physical or technical limitations, like dedicated knobs or scroll wheel, wireless functionality, and hot-swap switches.

But hey, it’s not every time you get to brag you own a keyboard as crazy as this…
