BIOSTAR announces BIOS updates to support AMD Smart Access Memory on Intel 400 series motherboards
BIOSTAR has just announced that they will releasing BIOS updates for their Intel 400 series boards to support AMD Smart Access Memory by January 2021. As previously revealed, AMD Smart Access Memory is just AMD’s branding on the PCIe feature resizable base address register (resizable BAR), and Intel actually supported the feature since the Haswell generation.
The feature is going to be available on the following boards:
- RACING Z490GTA EVO
- RACING Z490GTA
- RACING Z490GTN
- Z490A-SILVER
- Z490T-SILVER
- RACING B460GTA
- RACING B460GTQ
- H410MH
- H410MHG
To enjoy up to 11% better gaming performance via AMD Smart Access Memory, all the users of the above motherboards need to do is as follows:
- Enter your BIOS
- Go to Advanced
- Go to PCI Subsystem Settings
- Enable “Above 4G Decoding”
- Set “Re-size BAR Support” to Auto
- Save and reboot
Resizable BAR is currently supported on AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards and Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, although NVIDIA has confirmed that they are working on adding support for the feature to their Ampere graphics cards. AMD is reportedly not going to support the feature on the Ryzen 3000 series and older CPUs, due to the lack of support for the instruction necessary.
