This “Project Zero” Motherboard Is MSI’s Take On Backside Motherboard Connectors
Desktop peripheral makers are increasingly turning their attention to cables in the quest to make the cleanest looking PC, and as a result ASUS kicked this off with the DIY-APE project (and GIGABYTE’s equivalent Project Stealth), featuring backside motherboard connectors hidden from plain sight. Some GPUs have also employed various cable-hiding techniques to obscure the cable as much as possible, going as far as to develop an entirely new motherboard and power connector for it.
MSI has joined the party with “Project Zero”, and it involves two models serving both Intel and AMD platforms. The B650M Project Zero (AMD) and B760M Project Zero (Intel) are both mid-range motherboards from their respective range; and as far as microATX-sized motherboards go, it’s not that much different than the regular ones apart from the hidden connectors.
However, hardware leaker @wxnod has revealed a third model in the works: the Z790 Project Zero. This model comes with a standard ATX form factor instead, and comes with vastly more chunks of metal around the front side to facilitate better cooling, or just improve the aesthetics. It’ll also come with Wi-Fi 7 like the recently launched Z790 MAX series models.
So far, MSI hasn’t revealed the price yet for these models – but given the completeness of the spec data and some official images, one can assume it’ll launch very soon (though whether Malaysian markets will get them inbound is another subject).

Pokdepinion: The backside connector trend may begin to take off very soon – given the scale of involvement seen recently from many companies.
