CelcomDigi Hits 50% Mark In Network Modernization Efforts, Targeting 75% By End Of 2024

CelcomDigi Berhad today provided updates in its network integration and modernization exercise, as it completes upgrades in Penang while surpassing the 50% mark nationwide, ahead of the telecommunications provider’s designated schedule. Its upcoming goal is to complete 75% of network upgrades by the end of 2024.

As a merged entity from Celcom and Digi, CelcomDigi currently operates the widest 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A network in Malaysia, covering 97% of populated areas and surpassing other operators’ site counts by at least 50%. It further adds that over 90% of its network sites are now 5G-ready thanks to modernization efforts.

The company’s 5G innovation efforts consists of the recently unveiled the AI Experience Centre (AiX) and streamlined product portfolios, including new CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G, Prepaid 5G, and Home & Fibre products. It also deploys teams of network engineers, known as Skuad 5G, to rigorously test the network nationwide to maintain the network quality across the nation.

Penang residents now gets access to better signal strength and network throughput as the telco’s 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A coverage serves close to 99% and 98% of the state’s populated areas, respectively. Network integration and modernization are also progressing well across the Northern region, with over 50% of targeted deployment completed in Perak, Kedah, and Perlis, set to finish by 2025.
