U Mobile announced it has formed a strategic collaboration with OpenAI to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) across its telecommunications operations. The company said the initiative supports its ambition “to be Malaysia’s first AI-enabled telco.”
U Mobile Partners With OpenAI
The collaboration will involve the use of OpenAI’s frontier AI models across customer service, enterprise solutions, workforce productivity, network operations, cybersecurity, and digital-content functions. Amazon Web Services (AWS) will provide cloud infrastructure and technical support for the development and scaling of AI solutions.
U Mobile said the partnership will provide early access to OpenAI’s latest models, allowing both organizations to jointly explore and implement practical AI applications across the business. Initial areas of exploration include automating internal processes, accelerating software development, improving data analytics and data science, enhancing network operations, and strengthening cybersecurity capabilities.
For enterprise customers, OpenAI will serve as an Anchor Partner of U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP), which is set to provide opportunities for businesses, startups, developers, and academic institutions to co-create, test, and validate AI solutions using OpenAI’s models. Both companies also plan to explore future AI-enabled products, services, and partnerships that could expand access to AI technologies for consumers and businesses.
Regarding security and safety, the companies said they will explore the use of AI to improve cyber resilience, threat detection, and incident response capabilities, as well as supporting the responsible and secure adoption of AI across the telco’s operations and enterprise ecosystem.
Pokdepinion: Telcos are already pretty familiar with integrating AI into their 5G infrastructure, so this is hardly a surprise.
