Vibe Mobile has launched as the latest Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Malaysia, which will see the company piggybacking U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network for its mobile service. The operator positions its service as one that “combines mobile plans with a growing ecosystem of rewards, lifestyle privileges and digital features.”
Newest MVNO In Malaysia: Vibe Mobile
U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network is one of the two that forms the backbone of Malaysia’s nationwide 5G coverage, with the other half handled by Digital National Berhad (DNB), a special purpose vehicle owned by major telco operators including Maxis, CelcomDigi, and YTL Communications (Yes). Vibe Mobile owner Elite Links (M) Sdn Bhd signed an agreement with U Mobile earlier this year, joining Eastel as the second MVNO under ULTRA5G. (TM’s Unifi Mobile operates its 5G services via ULTRA5G as well.)
For its part, Vibe Mobile said it will develop a wider ecosystem combining connectivity, rewards and other customer benefits, with additional partnerships planned down the line. The service is being developed around different consumer interests, which range from travel, dining, gaming, music to entertainment; the centerpiece is the Vibe Mobile Points, acting as the service’s loyalty program which allow customers to earn rewards through their subscriptions and engagement with the platform.
As far as plans go, Vibe’s mobile plans will include data allocations and data rollover capabilities; the company is also developing potential features that could allow unused data to be converted into additional rewards. Similar to CelcomDigi, the company is exploring cybersecurity and personal protection services as part of its planned digital offerings.
Pokdepinion: With three major telcos fighting for bandwidth space in DNB’s networks, I expect U Mobile to get a lot more leeway in terms of offering capacity to various MVNOs in the future.
