To celebrate the launch of MRT Putrajaya Line Phase One, all RapidKL public transport rides will be absolutely free of charge for one whole month. The announcement came from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This means that all public transportation services under RapidKL will require no payments whatsoever for an entire month. This includes the LRT, MRT, BRT, Monorail, and their bus service. The MRT Putrajaya Line is being developed in two phases, with the first now open to the public.

The ultimate goal of the MRT Putrajaya Line is to serve roughly 2 million residents from Kwasa Damansara all the way to Putrajaya. Phase 2 is expected to pass through “strategic areas” in the KL city centre. Most notably areas such as Titiwangsa, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Ampang Park, and TRX.

With over 36 stations with 9 of them situated underground, it is said that there are plans to add 4 more stations in the future to improve access to public transport. Hopefully, this will help to ease traffic congestion which is plaguing the streets of KL.

Pokdepinion: Free public transport sounds great but if many people are going to take them since they’re free, especially on weekends, I wonder if they can handle it. One simple breakdown could cause a lot of headaches and delays for a lot of people.
