Proofpoint announced an expansion of its data security capabilities across Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). The initiative aims to assist organizations in safeguarding sensitive information as AI adoption accelerates. The expansion brings Proofpoint’s unified intent-based data security platform closer to the region to address local data sovereignty and compliance requirements.
AI adoption is raising governance challenges across APJ. According to Proofpoint’s 2026 AI and Human Risk Landscape report, 86% of regional organizations have moved AI assistants beyond pilot stages, and 74% are advancing autonomous agents. However, 51% describe their security posture as catching up, inconsistent, or reactive. As AI systems access enterprise information, existing data exposure and excessive permissions can escalate rapidly.
Proofpoint Expands APJ Organizations’ Security Capabilities
Data risk findings can now be mapped to recommended controls aligned with APJ regulatory requirements (including Singapore’s PDPA, India’s DPDP Act, Japan’s APPI, and Australia’s Privacy Act) and over 25 regulatory frameworks. The company is also adding AI data access governance, allowing security teams to identify which individuals and AI agents hold access to sensitive data and remediate excessive permissions before AI systems inherit them.
Data security challenges remain prevalent in the region. Proofpoint’s Voice of the CISO report revealed that 99% of CISOs in India and 91% in Singapore reported experiencing material data loss over the past year. These figures exceed the global average of 66%, despite near-universal adoption of data loss prevention tools across the region.
Proofpoint’s unified data security platform connects data sensitivity with user behavior and threat context. The platform integrates Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), Enterprise DLP, Adaptive Email DLP, and Insider Threat Management (ITM). This enables organizations to discover sensitive data, prevent loss across human and AI channels, and detect risky user behavior.
Proofpoint already supports locally delivered Email DLP, Endpoint DLP/ITM SaaS, and Cloud DLP in India and Australia. Additional infrastructure in India is scheduled for rollout later in 2026 to deliver DSPM capabilities (planned for Q3 2026). In Singapore, locally delivered capabilities for Email DLP, Endpoint DLP/ITM SaaS, and Cloud DLP are scheduled for availability in Q4 2026, followed by DSPM in Q2 2027. Cloud DLP and DSPM services are planned to launch locally in Japan in Q1 2027.
