iPadOS 26.1 is now live on all supported iPads, Apple announced – the first iterative update of iPadOS 26 introduces major updates to multitasking and content creation through the reintroduced (and redesigned) Slide Over, plus improved Local Capture capabilities.
iPadOS 26.1 Update

The updated Slide Over now integrates with the new windowing system, allowing users to ‘stash’ windows off to either side of the screen and quickly access them with a swipe from the edge. The window remains active above other apps, so users can activate them for quick functions like replying to messages or browsing social media while working on other tasks. The new version also also supports adjustable window sizes and aspect ratios, which grants users extra bit of flexibility.

Local Capture also gets a minor feature update. In case you don’t know, this feature allows users to record high-quality audio and video streams during video calls directly from their own device, sidestepping Apple’s built-in privacy protection for calls (it blocks a second app from accessing in-use mics and cameras, which is a problem if you do video content and remote podcasts). In this update, users can now choose specific save locations for recordings and manage gain control for external USB microphones.
Pokdepinion: Good to see a returning feature.
