Microsoft Caved In, Offers Extended Security Updates To Windows 10 Beyond 2025 For A Price

Microsoft previously set a deadline to end support for its Windows 10 operating system, and that date is October 14th, 2025. While business organizations can pay Microsoft a sum of money to provide extended security support (as transitioning systems can be expensive to businesses), such an option wasn’t offered to individual users in the past – until now.

If you’re one of the over 70% of users who currently use Windows 10, you can enroll in the Extended Security Update (ESU) program if you plan to use it past 2025 without the worry of any security concerns. Part of the reason this is offered is down to market share, as Windows 10 continues to dominate the PC market – but also, a significant amount of systems in use today lack the required TPM 2.0 chip to install Windows 11 on.

This will come in the form of a 3-year program paid through yearly subscription rates, which is still unknown for now. It’s also worth noting that ESU is explicitly for security-related updates only, and no feature updates will be offered. The limitations are as follows:

  • This program will include critical and/or important security updates.
  • Extended security updates do not include new features, customer-requested non-security updates, or design change requests. Technical support beyond the ESU itself is also not available.

If you do not intend to pay for this program, you may continue using Windows 10 at the risk of running on unsupported systems which may be subjected to hacker attacks. Alternatively, if your system supports it – you can upgrade to Windows 11 and continue receiving updates, all free of charge.

Pokdepinion: I’d say this is a fair solution for those who wants to continue using Windows 10.
