Microsoft Pushes Ads in Windows 11 Start Menu Of All Places
Ads, we all hate them. Not Microsoft… they are very keen to serve you with all kinds of ads in all places you wouldn’t necessarily imagine. This time it’s the Start Menu of Windows 11 – specifically, the user options.
Twitter user Albacore spotted this in their Windows 11 PC:
Do we really need to stuff OneDrive promos in the user session flyout? Anything for that sweet sweet KPI 😭 pic.twitter.com/ZsQGmkntDS

Of course this is not the first time Microsoft has been testing waters on where to place their ads on just to push Windows users deeper into their ecosystem – the venerable File Explorer was once a receiving end of that. While this is arguably less in-your-face unlike the notification popups or even full-blown full-screen message telling you to sign up to OneDrive – it’s still very much an ad that just takes a more ‘subliminal messaging’ approach.
Some other users has not seen this popping in their PCs so far, so it’s likely a small-scale test from Microsoft to see the response from its users.
