Recently, HONOR invited us to Kärcher Training Center to check out their latest addition to its X series lineup, the new HONOR X9c 5G. Like its predecessor (review here), it’s all about durability – just so you know, Kärcher is a brand that does cleaning tools, including high pressure washers. See where we’re going with this?
HONOR X9c 5G First Impressions
Our first look at the X9c 5G shows there’s some minor differences to the X9b 5G (its predecessor), including a slightly different camera arrangement, and uses a more standard island style bump instead of the ring-shaped layout used in the latter. Front camera is also updated with a pill-shaped cutout instead of the dot-shaped one, though it looks like it’s still a single camera possibly with more sensors housed next to it.
A quick briefing later with the new smartphone’s capabilities leads us to check out various demonstrations to prove the X9c’s ruggedness. The more ‘standard’ ones involves drop test (up to 2 meters this time), drilling test, and hammering test – by this we mean using the phone to hammer a nail into a block of wood.
So what are the more brutal ones that the X9c was subjected to? One involves putting the phone into a hotpot and HONOR claims that it can survive such an event, but let’s just say I wouldn’t advise anyone doing this even if it is actually capable of doing so. This is less about water resistance and more about excessive heat potentially damaging the battery, which is just an uber-bad idea no matter how tough your smartphone can be.
But in any case, the final demonstration is subjecting the X9c to the high-pressure water jet. To give you an idea of its destructive power (even if it’s just water), it’s capable of cutting into wood, coconut shells, watermelons with relative ease – and we are instructed to stay behind the working area for obvious safety reasons. The X9c did manage to survive the immense forces from the water jets when targeted head-on, with no damage to the smartphone whatsoever.
So that’s a quick preview of the upcoming HONOR X9c 5G smartphone – the company is plenty confident in its ruggedness, but you’ll still need to have other aspects of the smartphone to be well-designed to earn full points. In that case, you’ll have to wait for the reviews, including from us here at Pokde.NET. Until then, stay tuned!
