After reviewing so many laptops this year, we are finally going to announce what we believe is the best laptops of 2022. Without further ado, let’s dive right into it.

#PokdePicks Best Laptops of 2022

Acer Swift 5 (2022)

Acer Swift 5 (2022) Review -

The Acer Swift 5 (2022) is an ultraportable productivity laptop powered by the Intel Core i7-1260p with Intel Iris Xe graphics. At just 1.2kg, it brings reliable performance with all-day battery life without any thermal issues. The only thing you’d have to be wary about is the glary screen and somewhat slippery keyboard but if you don’t need a 2-in-1, this will serve you well.

This Year's Acer Swift 5 Is A Big Leap Forward for Their Laptops

It’s an excellent laptop but it’s not meant for everyone. It depends on the person as some issues will not be apparent to everyone. If you’re looking for an ultraportable laptop with good performance and versatility, this should definitely be considered, especially if you can afford its asking price of RM6,599.

ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED

ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED Review -

The natural rival to our previous pick, the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED is also another 14-inch ultraportable laptop powered by the Intel Core i7-1260p with Intel Iris Xe graphics. Coming in at a slightly heavier 1.39kg, this one sets itself apart from the competition with its beautiful OLED display, ErgoLift hinge, and ASUS NumberPad 2.0 for added convenience. Apart from that, you can also expect reliable performance and decent battery life.

ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED Review -

It’s a pretty solid ultraportable productivity laptop that can serve anyone well. The few reasons it might turn some people away is if they need touchscreen support, a more powerful machine for rendering / heavy video editing, or they can’t stomach its asking price of RM5,599. If none of these are applicable to you, then this will definitely serve you well.

GIGABYTE AORUS 17

GIGABYTE AORUS 17 XE4 Review -

GIGABYTE AORUS 17 XE4 Review – Guess whose eyes are those?

The GIGABYTE AORUS 17 comes in a number of variants which will differ in its use of RAM (DDR4 and DDR5) and storage. The one we tried is powered by the Intel Core i7-12700H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. It packs quite a bit of punch with good memory configurations and, to our surprise, no thermal throttling. With a design that shies away from the over-the-top gamer aesthetic, you’d be surprised that this has a 360Hz refresh rate display.

It is a great gaming laptop but whether it works for you is dependent on your needs for one, especially given its price tag of RM15,999. If you’re a more competitive gamer, you will benefit from high performance and the 360Hz refresh rate. For the more casual folk, you might be better off with a smaller, more energy-efficient one with a higher resolution display.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2022)

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 2022 Review-4

Arguably one of the best gaming laptops to launch this year, the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 (2022) features the Intel Core i9-12900H with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, packing more of a punch that rivals desktop gaming PCs. Together with a display fit for professionals, fantastic thermals, excellent quad-speaker setup, and a sleek design with plenty of RGB lighting to boot, it’s one that is hard to say no to.

That is of course unless a 17-inch laptop is too big for you and its asking price of RM16,999 is too much. You do get what you pay for however, and if you are looking for a desktop-class gaming machine that is still compact enough to slip into a backpack, this is it.

HONOR MagicBook X 16

HONOR MagicBook X 16 Review

On its own, the HONOR MagicBook X 16 doesn’t seem all too impressive of a laptop, especially considering the rest of our picks. With an Intel Core i5-1235U, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 512GB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, it seems a bit underwhelming. However, it is an ultraportable with a slightly larger 16-inch display so you can see more, and it’s still easy to bring around as its just 17.9mm thin and weighs 1.75kg.

HONOR MagicBook X 16 Review -

What makes it great is its asking price of RM3,499, making it a laptop with a high value proposition, especially for a 16-inch laptop, and it gets even more attractive if you’re an HONOR or HUAWEI smartphone user with the Magic-link feature. You might be lucky enough to get a bit of discount for it by now but to really make full use of it, I recommend upgrading the RAM to at least 16GBs as soon as you get it.

And that’s all for our picks of the best laptops of 2022. None of these are necessarily better than the other as everyone’s use case and needs for a laptop is different. We believe that any of these will be able to serve you well. If you feel like we missed out on anything, make sure to drop a comment and let us know.
