Xiaomi MIX 4 not making its way to Malaysia?

As the first Xiaomi MIX device since the Mi MIX 3 in 2018, the Xiaomi MIX 4 is an innovation-packed device that’s truly worthy of the Xiaomi MIX lineage. Unfortunately, those who were hoping to see Xiaomi’s ultimate flagship in Malaysia might be quite disappointed, as Xiaomi Malaysia reportedly has no plans to bring it to our shores officially.

For the uninitiated, the Xiaomi MIX 4 marks several firsts for Xiaomi’s lineups. There’s the truly hidden under-display camera, that doesn’t look off, unlike a certain foldable’s implementation of it. It is also the first Xiaomi smartphone to offer Ultra-Wide Band (UWB), and remains the only one to have that. Xiaomi has already announced smart speakers and smart TVs with UWB support, so the dugi’s lack of global availability might also indicate that we will not see those outside of China too.

The rear camera of the Xiaomi MIX 4 is also pretty interesting. While the primary 108MP Samsung HMX camera isn’t that exciting anymore, the 13MP ultra-wide camera with free-form lens and also the 8MP 5X telephoto with a periscope lens are still quite novel to Xiaomi’s lineup. You also get the 120W fast charging as well as 50W wireless fast charging to quickly juice up the 4500mAh battery.

All of that is clad in a stunningly sleek ceramic chassis. With a starting price of 4999 CNY, which translates to about RM3259 in Malaysia, it might be pricier than your usual Xiaomi device, but this is an uber-premium flagship from them. Besides, Xiaomi Malaysia did offer the decidedly less enticing Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra here in Malaysia for RM4299, and it sold out just fine, so I am not sure why are they not confident with the Xiaomi MIX 4.

In any case, the Xiaomi MIX 4 is expected to be available exclusively in Europe and China. If you are willing to take a risks to own an expensive flagship without warranty, you might want to get the Europe version, as the Chinese variant might not support Play Store, if you get it via grey imports.
