Rumor Claims Next-Gen Xbox Console Launches In 2026
According to Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope (via Wccftech), “trusted sources” have claimed that the next-gen Xbox console might launch in late 2026. This corroborated earlier reports from RedGamingTech last December, who noted that Microsoft may choose to use AMD’s Zen5-based CPU, as Zen6 wouldn’t be released in time for the console’s launch.
The leaker further added that Call of Duty’s 2026 release will be designated as the launch day title, as the company is utilizing the popularity of the renowned FPS shooter franchise to help push sales of its products and services, which includes a potential launch day release on Xbox Game Pass subscription service for its upcoming Black Ops title.
The reports from RedGamingTech has also added that Microsoft will ditch the two-model strategy it currently employs for the current-gen consoles (Xbox Series X/S), and will instead be focusing on a single model. However, the release timing for a new generation console is extremely early at this point, as a console generation usually lasts around 10 years. Hence, the leaker speculated that this could be a preemptive response against Sony’s PlayStation 6 (or just PS5 Pro).
On the Sony’s side, there has been loads of information already leaked out to the tech circles in recent weeks, and one of them has claimed that the mid-cycle refresh for PlayStation 5 is expected to arrive by the end of this year.
Pokdepinion: Sounds like a very risky plan on Microsoft’s part.
