[CES 2024] Samsung Odyssey Gaming Monitor Lineup Now Comes With Flat OLED Panels
Samsung’s Odyssey lineup is getting new members – and they come in the form of flat OLED panels in the form of Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6. In the past, OLED was only offered in curved variants, whereas flat panel models had to run with traditional VA/IPS panels, but that is set to change. The company also introduced the refreshed Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD), though the panel specs remain the same.
The 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) is Samsung’s first-ever 4K OLED gaming monitor, and it comes with a 240Hz refresh rate accompanied by near-instantaneous 0.03ms response time. Meanwhile, the smaller 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD) uses a QHD OLED panel that pushes the refresh rate even further, clocking at 360Hz with 0.03ms response time as well.
Both the refreshed OLED G9 and new OLED G8 now come with a new feature called Multi Control, and it sounds like KVM mode which is just never mentioned in the press release, for some reason. It says: “Multi Control allows users to seamlessly transfer images and/or text between their Samsung monitor and other Samsung devices — including their Galaxy Book, tablet or phone — for a smoother, more efficient work process using their mouse and keyboard.”
They also come built-in with Samsung SmartThings Hub that can connect to various IoT devices, which the company says is compatible with Matter and Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA) standards. Like their Smart Monitor counterparts, there’s a built-in Smart TV-like platform and gaming hub for accessing cloud gaming features.
All three monitors will support “OLED Glare-free technology” (presumably Samsung speak for anti-glare panels), VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support. No pricing has been announced yet, but expect more to come in CES 2024 next week.
Pokdepinion: Slightly surprised there doesn’t seem to be anything relating to “Dual-Mode” displays from ASUS and LG recently.
