With the requirement for today’s AAA titles become more demanding, it’s fair to say that graphics cards with less than 4GB of VRAM is having a tougher time coping with the performance needed. That’s not to say that they aren’t any good, but AMD says that with that amount of VRAM, it’s simply not enough to survive in today’s age.

4GB VRAM GPUs not enough in today’s world

The news was revealed in a recent blogpost of theirs where they compared 4GB and 8GB models of their Radeon 5500 XT graphics card. According to the test, the extra VRAM managed to give roughly 20% of extra performance in terms of gaming.

With the test done, here’s what they had to say about the matter:

AMD is leading the industry at providing gamers with high VRAM graphics solutions across the entire product offering. Competitive products at a similar entry-level price-point are offering up to a maximum of 4GB of VRAM, which is evidently not enough for today’s games. Go Beyond 4GB of Video Memory to Crank Up your settings. Play on RadeonTM RX Series GPUs with 6GB or 8GB of VRAM and enjoy gaming at Max settings

While it is true with more VRAM, you’ll be able to squeeze out more performance for your games. Yet, at the end of the day, it all depends if you can afford newer and more powerful graphics card.

We’ve recently reviewed the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5500 XT and RX 5600. Do check the article out for more details.
