TikTok Shop and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) have announced a joint initiative to reduce the cost of essential goods for Malaysian merchants and consumers. Launched during the Pesta #JomLokal event, the initiative involves a total investment of over RM180 million by TikTok Shop, covering commission fee reductions, shipping rebates, and consumer vouchers.
TikTok Shop Pledges Support For Local Sellers
On TikTok Shop’s part, the platform has extended its 0% commission fee waiver to five additional sub-categories of essential foods – including milk, powdered milk, yogurt, and fermented dairy products – bringing the total number of eligible sub-categories to 56. Simultaneously, commission fees across 39 other essential sub-categories have been reduced by between 0.5 and 9.1 percentage points; sellers also receive an RM2 rebate per order to offset shipping costs for deliveries nationwide.
As part of a joint effort with KPDN, TikTok Shop became the first e-commerce platform to host an online Jualan Ihsan Rahmah, featuring participating #JomLokal grocers such as Hero Market and Kedai FGV. Malaysian shoppers can access up to 30% off vouchers and additional savings when paying via TikTok Pay on groceries and daily necessities including rice, sugar, and flour.
The Pesta #JomLokal event also ran alongside KPDN’s on-ground Jualan Rahmah, with participation from Homes Fresh Grocer, aligning with KPDN’s Jom Beli Produk Malaysia initiative. “The government remains committed to ensuring economic growth translates into tangible benefits for the rakyat, particularly through efforts that strengthen affordability, support entrepreneurship, and create inclusive opportunities,” said Datuk Armizan bin Mohd Ali, Minister of KPDN.
He continued, “we welcome this proactive collaboration by TikTok Shop to help alleviate Malaysians’ cost of living and stimulate domestic trade. It demonstrates how digital platforms can complement national efforts to empower local MSMEs to participate sustainably in the digital economy and elevate the purchasing power of everyday Malaysians.”
