Google has made changes to its AI subscription offerings, with Google AI Plus in particular seeing expanded storage capacity, and an introduction of new compute-based usage system across its Gemini app and broader product ecosystem. The changes, which is now in effect, also affects existing Google One Premium subscribers.
Google One Premium Is Now Google AI Plus
Compared to launch last October, Google AI Plus now includes 400GB of storage, up from 200GB; while US pricing is said to be slashed down to $4.99/month, there is no pricing change applied for Malaysian markets, meaning it’s still RM23.99/month. Notably, existing Google One Premium subscribers are also being transitioned to the Google AI Plus branding, though they get some grandfathered benefits, including 2TB of storage space.
A central feature of the update is a new approach to usage limits in the Gemini app. Google is replacing its prior fixed model with a compute-based system that factors in prompt complexity, the features used, and the length of each conversation. Limits refresh every five hours, subject to a weekly cap – for AI Plus subscribers, they get double the usage allowance of free-tier users.
The compute-based model is also rolling out to other Google AI products, starting with Flow and Antigravity. As part of this transition, the 200 monthly AI credits previously bundled with the base plan are being discontinued. With the new updates, Google’s monthly subscription tiers are as follows:
