Sony’s Vlogger-Centric ZV-1 Gets A Successor Named ZV-1 II

Sony ZV-1 II

Sony today announces the new ZV-1 II vlogging camera with “highly requested” features incorporated into the latest successor. The new model retains the same 1.0-type Exmor RS sensor and the BIONZ X image processing engine, however the lens has now switched to a new one that allows for wider field of view. The new 18-50mm ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* F/1.8-4 lens replaces the previous 24-70mm lens from the previous generation.

The camera is also capable of face detection which does two things: one, it automatically adjusts to keep the subject in focus; and two, it allows the the camera to pick one of three microphones modes available based on the position of the speaker relative to the camera’s point of view. There’s also a one-key Cinematic Vlog mode that locks the aspect ratio to 2.35:1 at 24FPS, matching that of cinematic films. The display now also shows the red frame around the frame to indicate recording in progress, on top of the indicator lights next to the lens.

As for the I/O, good news: the Micro-USB is now replaced by the modern USB-C connector for power delivery. Display-out is still handled by a micro-HDMI connector and a microphone jack for audio input (no headphone output, still). Wi-Fi meanwhile did not receive upgrades and retains its standard as Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n), whereas Bluetooth gets a small bump into 4.2 standard. Existing accessories such as GP-VPT2BT grip will be compatible with the ZV-1 II as well.

The ZV-1 II will go on sale in Malaysia starting in July 2023, with a small price bump over its predecessor at RM3,999.

Pokdepinion: The new lens is definitely a big upgrade.
