GTA 6 Likely Launching In 2024, As Hinted By Publisher
The big one. The BIG one. THE BIG ONE!
We’ve seen the clickbaits, then the actual leaks, and Rockstar confirming the existence of the game – but final question remained: when is GTA 6 launching? Looks like we may have a clue based on the yearly earnings report published by Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
The conference call transcript, which contains T2’s projections for the upcoming fiscal year 2025 (which begins in April 2024), reads:
“Looking ahead, Fiscal 2025 is a highly anticipated year for our Company. For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success. In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several groundbreaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and beyond.”
For context, the net booking in the previous fiscal year was $5.3 billion, and that was after the acquisition of Zynga, a major mobile games developer, which help boosted the figures. Prior to the acquisition the figure has largely stayed at $3 billion, so a jump such huge is unlikely to be contributed to just several new game releases – unless it is of course, GTA 6. The game is said to be the most expensive to date with development budget costing up to $2 billion, nearly 4 times more than Red Dead Redemption 2 ($540 million) and 8 times over GTA V’s original release ($265 million).
IGN asked Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick for comment, however he declined to confirm nor deny as the official stance on the matter is that Take-Two do not talk about unannounced titles in earnings reports such as this one. It remains to be seen if the marketing for GTA 6 may kick off as soon as next month’s Summer Game Fest, enough time for the studio to hype up what is arguably the biggest game release of the decade so far. The game is said to be set in a Miami-based map, much like Vice City two decades ago, and feature a couple protagonist based on Bonnie-and-Clyde style plot.
