POCO X4 Pro 5G and POCO M4 Pro announced from RM899 — here’s all you need to know about POCO’s latest mid-rangers!
POCO has just announced their latest mid-range offerings at MWC 2022, and they are also coming to Malaysia as early as 3rd March. The POCO X4 Pro 5G features some upgrades over its predecessor while the POCO M4 Pro brings about a more affordable option by losing the arguably unnecessary 5G connectivity capability. Without further ado, let’s check out what they have to offer.
POCO X4 Pro 5G: lower performance, but now with 5G!
We dubbed the POCO X3 Pro the “true heir to the POCO F1”, with it prioritizing raw performance over everything else. In contrast, it seems that the POCO X4 Pro 5G is less focused on all-out performance, and is intent on offering a better smartphone experience overall. With that comes a major downgrade in terms of its performance, going from the Snapdragon 860 to the decidedly weaker Snapdragon 695, but you do get 5G with the POCO X4 Pro 5G.
Along with that, you also have a more premium 120Hz OLED display, versus last year’s 120Hz IPS panel, and the camera also received a major upgrade to a 108MP one. The charging speed is also significantly upgraded, with 67W fast charging, up from 33W in the POCO X3 Pro. I would say the design has matured as well, although that’s probably subjective, depending on your tastes.

POCO M4 Pro: OLED upgrade, 64MP camera in a fresh new design
For a more affordable option, there’s the POCO M4 Pro. The POCO M4 Pro is a slight downgrade from the POCO M4 Pro 5G, which as you would have gathered by the name, sports 5G. The POCO M4 Pro is based on the Helio G96, which is a touch slower than the Dimensity 810 that powered the POCO M4 Pro 5G. However, just like the POCO X4 Pro 5G, you lose some, and you win some. It is also a touch more affordable than its 5G-toting sibling.
The POCO M4 Pro gets a smaller 6.43″ display than its 5G brethren, but makes up for it in quality. This device packs an OLED panel that goes up to 1000 nits, and also supports the DCI-P3 color gamut for vibrant visuals. On the back, you get a new 64MP main camera, up from 50MP. There’s also an additional 2MP macro shooter, although this lacks autofocus or the telemacro capabilities that we have seen from some of POCO’s previous devices.

The POCO M4 Pro and POCO X4 Pro 5G will be available starting 3rd March, with the former being available exclusively on Lazada, and the latter available exclusively on Shopee. Pokdepinion: Hmm a performance downgrade for an overall feature set improvement… I am not sure how will that sit with POCO fans. Personally, not a huge fan of this move.
