The OnePlus 6 launched as the most expensive OnePlus ever launched. OnePlus doesn’t seem to want to let off the momentum, and has just launched the OnePlus 6T, priced starting from RM2588.

The OnePlus 6T’s heftier price tag may seem rather unjustified when you consider that most of the key specifications are the same as the OnePlus 6. There is the familiar Snapdragon 845, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Also the dual 16MP f/1.7 + 20MP f/1.7 cameras are also here. Once we look deeper under the surface of the OnePlus 6T, we see some nice upgrades.

Right under the new 6.41″ Optic AMOLED display with smaller bezels and a tiny notch, there’s the new Screen Unlock feature which is OnePlus’ fancy naming for an under-display fingerprint scanner. OnePlus claims the new feature will allow users to unlock the OnePlus 6T in a mere 0.34 seconds. That’s as fast as a conventional fingerprint scanner!

The rear cameras also feature a new Nightscape feature to enable better low-light imagery. The sensors aren’t new, and are carried over from the OnePlus 6. Studio lighting is also a new feature, picked up from Apple’s repertoire of dual-camera niceties. Other than that, it seems like same old same old.

You do also get a larger battery. Unlike the previous OnePlus smartphones which kept the 3300 mAh battery capacity through several generations, you are finally getting a larger 3700 mAh battery with the OnePlus 6T. You also get Dash Charge, which while no longer the fastest fast-charging technology in the world, is still pretty quick.

Malaysians can pre-order the OnePlus 6T from Lazada starting NOW. It is available in both Mirror Black and Midnight Black variants. Pricing varies according to memory and storage options as follows:

  • 6GB + 128GB: RM2588
  • 8GB + 128GB: RM2888
  • 8GB + 256GB: RM3188

What do you think of the OnePlus 6T? Let us know! And oh, the OnePlus 6T still doesn’t have any ingress protection rating, sans a claim for improved water and dust resistance.

Pokdepinion: With the competition in the budget flagship scene heating up, the pricing of the OnePlus 6T might not sit well with consumers here in Malaysia. However it does offer a nice list of features, so let’s see how will it fare.
