UiTM Hacked — More Than 1 Million Students’ Personal Details Leaked Out
Alarmingly, there’s a total of 1,164,540 total of accounts belonging to students and alumni of UiTM has been breached and the leaked, which showed their private and confidential records. According to reports, the breach involved students from the University (ranging from various courses) of those who studied from 2000 to 2018.
It is reported that the data included information of students from the Shah Alam campus to add to the other 13 state campuses around Malaysia. Besides that, it was known that students that enrolled for UiTM accredited courses such as Kolej INPENS, Kolej Yayasan Terengganu, Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran Johor, Institut Yayasan Bumiputera Pulau Pinang, Kolej UNITI, Kolej Chermai Jaya, Kolej Lagenda Langkawi, and Institut Teknologi Perak was also affected by the cybersecurity breach.
On the leaked data, it featured information such as Student ID, Student Name, MyKAD Number, Address, Email Address, Campus Codes, Campus Names, Program Codes, Course Levels, and Handphone numbers.
It is said that the breach happened last year, being around February and March 2018. Adding to that, it is reported that UiTM is aware of the issue, but has yet to come out with any official statements regarding the matter.
